Kansas City is hosting fans from all over the world for the FIFA World Cup — so we hit the streets to ask the people actually visiting: what do you think of Kansas City?

The answers were remarkably consistent. Across different countries, accents, and reasons for being here, the same words kept coming up: clean, green, organized, and welcoming. Here's what visitors told us.

What visitors are saying

• An Argentine-Canadian couple (Montreal + Argentina) — First time in KC, partly curious because of the Chiefs' Montreal-born player connection. They praised the welcoming people, the cleanliness, and the weather, and said it won't be their last visit.
• A former Raytown resident (now in Denver) — Originally from Argentina, she lived in KC from 2008 to 2013 and is still a Chiefs fan. Coming back, she found the city more organized and cleaner than she remembered, with highways that feel like "a breeze" next to Denver traffic. Visiting Argentinians kept commenting on the roads and the manicured landscaping.
• A visitor from Algeria (now New Jersey) — Surprised by how much history KC has and pushed back on the "flyover state" label. Between the food, the barbecue, and the soccer culture, he called it a place that "should be known" — and noted KC's reputation as soccer city of America.
• An Austin, TX family — Flew in that morning and praised the smooth, uncrowded airport, the green space, and locals who wanted to chat and share recommendations. They'd already walked the Berkeley Riverfront near the Origin Hotel KC (where Argentina's squad is staying) and were impressed by the development around CPKC Stadium.
• An Israeli visitor on his seventh US trip — His first time in KC, and he was struck by how quiet and clean it is. He singled out the free transit and the streetcar as genuinely helpful — and gently pushed back on locals who complain about KC public transportation.
• A born-and-raised Missourian — Reminded us that Kansas City, Missouri is older than the state of Kansas itself, weighed in on what to do with the old Cerner buildings (reuse or convert to apartments), and said he loves seeing visitors from all over the world in town.
• A soccer researcher on his fourth host city — After Toronto, Houston, and Atlanta (with Dallas next), he called Kansas City the best-organized FanFest he'd seen. His reasoning: clear, concise information for fans ahead of time, plus public transportation and amenities that made navigating between FanFest and the stadium easy compared to sprawling cities like Houston.
• A military veteran from the Florida panhandle — Once stationed in mid-Missouri, he praised the airport welcome and the general hype around town, and pointed to KC's neighborhood diversity — Power & Light, Overland Park, Lee's Summit — as a real strength.

The themes we kept hearing

A few impressions came up again and again:

• Clean and green — Visitors repeatedly mentioned the cleanliness, the landscaping, and how beautiful the city looks.
• Organized and easy to navigate — From the airport to the highways to the FanFest setup, people felt the city had its act together.
• Genuinely welcoming — Almost everyone mentioned how friendly and hospitable locals were, often unprompted.
• Better public transit than locals admit — The free streetcar and KC Connect surprised more than one visitor, including some from cities with far less.
• More than a "flyover" — History, barbecue, and soccer culture changed minds for several first-timers.

Easy to take for granted
